Move to Vancouver, Wash. to Accommodate Growth
PORTLAND, Ore. April 2, 2014 — Banfield Pet Hospital®, the world’s largest veterinary practice, today announced it will relocate its corporate headquarters from Portland, Ore. to Vancouver, Wash. in late 2015.
“To accommodate our tremendous growth, we are moving to a new headquarters that will better meet our needs,” said Tony Ueber, Banfield’s president and CEO. “Building a custom-designed facility from the ground up will provide our associates with an innovative and collaborative work environment, and will best position Banfield to achieve its long-term cultural and business goals.”
Minimizing disruptions to the nearly 600 associates who work at its headquarters was a top priority for the company, which looked at properties located within roughly 10 miles of its current location in northeast Portland. Banfield also considered factors such as length of commute for its associates, future growth needs, proximity to restaurants and entertainment and the total cost of business.
“After an extensive search that included properties on both sides of the river, we found that the Washington location best met our needs for the future,” Ueber said. “We remain committed to the Portland – Vancouver metropolitan area and look forward to serving our community, people and pets from our new headquarters.”
Banfield will retain a presence in Oregon through ongoing operations at its more than 20 hospitals around the state – at which an additional 400 associates provide high quality medical care for pets each and every day.
“Greater Portland Inc’s role is to unite our local partners to ensure companies like Banfield can grow in our region,” said Sean Robbins, GPI’s president and CEO. “Working together with the Columbia River Economic Development Council and the cities of Portland and Vancouver on this project, we were able to support one of the region’s iconic businesses, and we look forward to Banfield’s continued contributions to the regional economy.”
Banfield’s new custom-built campus covers more than 20 acres and will offer approximately 230,000 square feet of office space, over 50 percent more than its current building. The company will continue operations at its current headquarters until the new building – which will be located on SE Mill Plain Blvd., just east of SE 192nd Ave. – is completed late next year.
